Our Story

Melita Silva has always loved to bring in local makers into her store, Melita’s Home Furnishings, for many years now. There was always excitement from customers when they were able to interact with local artists and their creations. “How did you make this?”, “how long have you been creating?”, and “where could I learn how to do this?”, were questions we overheard as goods and praises were exchanged during these pop-ups. We then realized that there was an answer to these questions, and Melita’s Village Nest was hatched!

Melita’s Village Nest is devoted to showcasing the creations of our talented local makers, providing exciting workshops to learn new crafts in a community-based setting, and providing high-quality, handmade, and locally grown product to the village of Ossining.

After the successes of our pop-up markets with our friends, we realized we deserve a space to showcase our makings and be able to share our talents with others through workshops and events in a supportive space. We named it Melita’s Village Nest for its natural connotation it has with the concept of nurturing. Nurturing community, creativity, expression, and so on.

A nest is designed to nurture its young and be a space to allow for its creations to fly away and thrive! And of course, Melita, as our mother hen, is what holds the nest together. We want it to be a haven for our local makers where they can support their artistic creations, as well as bringing in curious artists who want to open themselves up to being creative themselves!

We believe that to thrive as a community, we must support one another as best as we can, and as much as we can.

Melita’s Village Nest is a physical manifestation of that belief.
